Facebook tips for any business

Are you shirking your business’s Facebook duties based on the excuse that the social media demographic is just too young? Well, that might have been the case a few years ago, but not so in our socially-accepted social world.

In fact, moms and dads are joining Facebook in throngs. Why? Well, to check up on their kids of course! Studies show that more than half of adults with kids join Facebook in order to spy on their spawn. Clever? Pathetic? Crazy?

Who cares! What this means is that you – more than ever – have a diversified demographic to market to. In fact, 43 percent of parents check their kids’ Facebook profiles every day, meaning that you now have a captive audience on a daily basis.

In fact, the growth of the over-45 demographic active on Facebook has skyrocketed in the past few years, making Facebook advertising a lucrative option for many businesses. But when you’re advertising to the more – err – mature crowd,

Take a few pointers from us:

  1. Be clear and concise: You know as well as we do; the older crowd is inherently more skeptical than their college-aged counterparts. So when you’re marketing on social media platforms like Facebook, be clear in your offers and don’t employ trickery or bait-and-switch methodology.
  2. Offer “expert” content: The more mature the user, the less impressed he or she will be with content so generic it could have been sold by Western Family. Post content from reputable and expert sources to help your business gain credibility.
  3. Don’t patronize: You may be targeting an older demographic – but don’t let them know that. No one wants to feel old. Tailor your messaging to their age range but keep the subject of “age” at bay entirely.
  4. Use age-appropriate photos and videos: We’re not saying you should become an AARP ad, but when you take photos or create videos, be sure you’re representing this demographic.
